New Townhomes in Cambridge

Townhomes are where most of the new-construction choice is in Cambridge. This page shows the pre-construction townhome projects selling now, from freehold two-storey towns with attached garages to three-storey and stacked urban towns, and I can send floor plans and price lists for any of them.

Several builders are active here at once: Freure Homes and Ridgeview Homes in west Galt, Treasure Hill along Dundas Street South, Reid's Heritage Homes on Main Street in Galt, Fusion Homes in Hespeler and Carey Homes with a smaller collection. For buyers coming from the GTA, a new Cambridge townhome is often the way to get a brand-new house within reach of the 401.

Where new townhomes are being built

West Galt has master-planned communities with freehold towns, close to the newer shopping on the west side of the city. South Galt along Dundas Street South has towns with quick access to Highway 8 and Hamilton. Hespeler, in the northeast, puts you closest to the 401 for a GTA commute, and its newest community mixes towns with stacked units and detached homes. Galt's Main Street corridor has urban-style towns closer to the older core.

Freehold, stacked or condo town

Not every new town is freehold. A freehold town means you own the house and land with no monthly fee. Some freehold towns sit on a common element road with a smaller monthly fee for shared areas, and stacked or urban towns are usually condominium units with a full fee. The tenure also decides your cooling-off rights: a condominium unit bought from a builder generally has ten days to cancel, while a freehold town generally has none, so have a lawyer review the agreement before it is firm.

Comparing plans and phases

Within a single project, the end units, the lots backing onto green space and the plans with a walkout or larger garage usually carry premiums. Builders release in phases, and the price, the incentives and even the standard finishes can change from one phase to the next. I compare those details across projects so you can see what you are really getting, and I budget for the design centre and closing adjustments, which are easy to underestimate on a new town.

How I help townhome buyers

I follow releases from the builders active in Cambridge and can often get my clients onto VIP or platinum lists when builders run them, for first look at plans and lots. I review the agreement with you and attend your pre-delivery inspection. Builders usually pay the agent who brings the buyer, so in most cases my help costs you nothing, provided I am registered with you from your first visit.

New Townhomes in Cambridge: common questions

Where are new townhomes being built in Cambridge?

In west Galt's newer communities, along Dundas Street South in south Galt, in Hespeler near the 401, and along Main Street in Galt. The cards above show each project and its builder.

Are new townhomes in Cambridge freehold?

Many are, but not all. Some are freehold on a common element road with a small monthly fee, and stacked or urban towns are usually condominium units. I confirm the tenure from the agreement before you commit.

What is the difference between a stacked town and a regular townhome?

A regular town runs from the ground to the roof and usually comes with a garage and yard. A stacked town sits above or below another unit, is normally a condo with a monthly fee, and generally costs less.

Is there a cooling-off period on a new townhome in Cambridge?

For a stacked or condo town bought from a builder, generally yes: ten days under the Condominium Act. For a freehold town, generally no, so get the agreement reviewed by a lawyer before you sign.

Is a new Cambridge townhome a good option for GTA commuters?

It can be, especially in Hespeler or north Galt near the 401. Cambridge has GO buses but no GO train today, so test the commute at the times you would travel before choosing a project.
