Homes for Sale in Cambridge, ON

These are the homes for sale in Cambridge right now, updated from the MLS. Cambridge has a wider range of housing ages than most GTA suburbs: stone and brick homes from the 1800s, postwar bungalows, 1980s and 1990s two-storeys, and newer subdivisions on the edges of Hespeler and Galt.

The best first step is choosing between Galt, Preston, Hespeler and the newer suburbs, because they really do feel like different towns. I am happy to talk through that before you start booking showings.

Choosing an area

For a commute east along the 401, Hespeler and north Galt are the most convenient. For character homes and walkability to shops and the river, look at downtown Galt, West Galt and the older streets of Preston and Hespeler Village. For newer construction and family-sized lots, the subdivisions in east Hespeler and north and east Galt are where most of the post-2000 building has happened.

Preston often offers the most house for the money among the older areas, with plenty of bungalows and storey-and-a-half homes on decent lots.

Older homes need a different checklist

Many Cambridge homes predate modern building codes. On older houses I look closely at knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, galvanized or lead plumbing, stone or block foundations, the roof and the age of the furnace, because these affect insurance and financing as well as your budget. Some properties near the Grand and Speed rivers are within Grand River Conservation Authority regulated areas, which can affect additions and insurance.

How I help buyers here

Because Cambridge's housing is so mixed, a city-wide average price is not very useful. I compare recent sales of genuinely similar homes on nearby streets and adjust for condition and lot, so you know where a fair offer sits.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cambridge cheaper than Milton?

Cambridge has historically offered more house for the money than most GTA municipalities, including Milton, but it depends on the type and area. The live listings on each city's page show current asking prices side by side.

Which part of Cambridge is best for commuting to the GTA?

Hespeler and north Galt are closest to Highway 401, and GO buses stop at the Cambridge SmartCentres and in Hespeler. Preston and south Galt add time on local roads.

Are there heritage homes for sale in Cambridge?

Yes. West Galt, including the Dickson Hill heritage conservation district, downtown Galt, Preston and Hespeler Village all have older homes. Whether a specific home is listed or designated on the City of Cambridge heritage register, and what that means for future changes, is something I check before you offer.

What should I know about buying near the Grand River?

Some riverside and low-lying properties fall within Grand River Conservation Authority regulated areas or floodplain mapping. That can affect building permits and insurance, so I check the mapping for any property near the river.
